Backround The Dover Castle is one of the most famous castles in north-west Europe, set high in the cliffs overlooking the English Channel

History The Dover castle has been around for 950 years, from the times of Norman conquest to World War II and farther. Its defenses have changed over the years to adapt to the changing warfare

More History From 1170, successive kings rebuilt and helped extend the castle During World War II, anti aircraft guns were put in, and the command center was located underground in the bomb proof wartime passages.

The Roman Lighthouse One of the most unusual and longest lasting buildings within the walls Was most likely built in the second century ad.

The Keep The keep, which is located at the heart of the Dover Castle, was built by Henry II, and it was used as a home for the king and any other important travelers.

Wartime Tunnels The secret wartime tunnels are a difficult system of underground tunnels and rooms. The Dunkirk evacuation, led by Vice Admiral Ramsay, was directed from this group of tunnels.
