1  9 th and 10 th graders  English students  Core 40, Tech Prep, AP/Honors  Middle class, suburban/urban community  Lafayette and W. Lafayette  Can be used in normal curriculum or for extra credit for children who are behind and need the points or for those who are ready for more learning opportunities

2  Can be done individually, in small groups or as a class activity  At a computer with headphones for an individual or with speakers for a group  Can be projected via interactive boards (like Smartboard) for a larger viewing with amplified sound  Can be “paused” to allow discussion or repetition of terms and facts  Can be done in a library as part of a larger presentation on Greek mythology  Can be done at home if uploaded onto a teacher’s website or placed in an easily accessed shared file folder.

3  Students will be able to identify fact and fiction based on the first volume of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief and classic Greek myths.  Students will have a chance to receive 75% of the points on the quiz from this section.  If done in a group, each student will receive 75%.  Discussion amongst the students is allowed, if in a smaller group.  If done as a class activity, students should be given paper to write down their answers to the quiz and turn them in for credit.  After papers are collected, the teacher may go over the quiz again with the students volunteering their answers.

4  Students will be able to identify certain Greek terms used in the Percy Jackson novel.  With a multiple choice option, they will be able to test their knowledge of terms and places in Greek mythology.  The portion of the quiz for terms and places will be worth 25%.  Students will be expected to know the terms and places using definitions and/or pictures.

5  Given a photo, students will be able to identify Greek gods, goddesses, places and objects with no less than 80% accuracy.  Given a set of pictures and terms noted on cards, students will correctly identify the images presented by matching them with the correct term printed on the card as measured by 8 out of 10 cards.  Given the story Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, students will write a 250-word essay with correct information about the characters with no less than 80% accuracy.
