9. Gonorrhea ◦ Bacterial infection ◦ Treated with antibiotics ◦ An infected woman can transmit this to her infant’s eyes during childbirth and cause blindness ◦ Babies get antibiotic eye ointment as a prophylaxis

10. Herpes ◦ Viral infection ◦ No cure ◦ Virus stays in body, can experience repeated attacks ◦ Can be treated with antiviral medication to decrease the number and severity of recurrences

12. Trichomoniasis ◦ Caused by a parasitic protozoa ◦ Main symptom is foul-smelling discharge ◦ Treated with antiparasitic oral medication

13. Pubic Lice ◦ Parasites that are transmitted sexually ◦ Can also be spread by contact with contaminated clothing or bed linens ◦ Symptoms=intense itching, redness of perineal area ◦ Treatment=medications to kill lice, wash all clothing & linens to destroy lice and nits (eggs)
