Requirements for Membership: Maintain 3.5 cumulative grade point average Perform at least 5 hours of NHS volunteer service and 10 hours of service outside of NHS per semester (all 15 hours can be from NHS volunteer service) Uphold honorable characteristics (honesty, responsibility, courtesy, etc.) Pay the $10.00 fee online or at Student Accounts Attend at least 5 meetings per year Donations are welcomed, but they are not a requirement. Donations must be paid separately from the $10.00 fee!

Probation o If your GPA falls below a 3.5, you will be notified and placed on probation for one semester. If your grades are not back up to 3.5 by the next grading period, you will be removed from the roster. o You can also lose membership for not completing your hours or acting in a dishonorable way. o IMPORTANT: If you commit yourself to volunteer, make sure you attend the event or you will be notified and placed on probation. If you have an emergency, make sure to give your notice 48 hours before the event. You will be asked to add these hours on to the 15 hour requirement if you do not call/show up.

Important Dates: NHS meets on the first Tuesday of each month. We meet in the 200 Bldg. Resource room at 2:15 and are usually done by 2:45 If you are unable to attend a meeting, you can visit the CHS NHS page and view the minutes from the meeting to keep informed of volunteer opportunities and other important info. Hours will be due on February 2, 2016 Formal induction banquet- May 31, 2016 from 5:30 to 7:00 in the CHS cafeteria.

NHS Apparel o Store opens on October 7, 2015 and closes on October 23, 2015.

Volunteer Hours Documentation Hours will be due February 2, 2016 You will need to submit the correct documentation form (available today, outside Ms. Flaherty and Mrs. Elvrom’s classrooms, and on the CHS NHS webpage) Please fill the form out correctly, which means: All signatures and phone numbers present All dates of service provided and correct All events include a description of the service Check which events are NHS events Total all of the hours at the bottom of the page Attach the blue “wallet” slip if that has signature and note (see attached) in the signature line.

What does not count as community service hours? o Church service o Babysitting o If you participate in a fundraiser (concessions, takeovers, etc.) that benefits you or a club or organization you participate o Parents are not allowed to sign community service hours!

Service Opportunities o Key Club Blood Drive o 2 NHS Hours o Visit the Key Club table during both lunches to sign up. o Last day to sign up is October 9, 2015 o Reminder: Key Club hours are NOT NHS hours and only count as ½ towards the NHS outside hours.

Service Opportunities Night Out for Peace Out Auction Fundraiser! Friday October 23, 2015 from 4:00-11:00pm. Students can stay the whole time or work a shorter shift. Where: Post Hall (1102 A Street #450 Tacoma 98402) What: Set up, Various jobs, clean up. Wear: Black Slacks (no yoga pants, leggings or jeans). It is a masquerade event, so you can buy a mask to wear, but nothing related to horror please. You can not bring a mask that needs to be held in place. You will also be given a black T-shirt to wear. Mrs. Elvrom will be there to sign off hours Need 30 volunteers!

Service Opportunities Celebrating 60’s When: October 10 at the STAR Center Wear: White top and black bottoms Positions: Set up (5-10 volunteers): 2pm-5:30pm. Linens, plates, silverware and napkins will need to be set up along with decorations, the greeting table and silent auction items Host/greeter, Check-in, Escorts (1-2): 5:30-7:30pm. Help MPT staff member check people in, help people find seats and act as a floater to periodically check up on various items. Servers (15) 5:30-7:30pm: Serving dinners to guests. Each volunteer will be in charge of 2 tables of 8 people.

Celebrating 60’s Continued Plater: Need a crew of people to plate the food. 2-3 people specifically designated to refill the water carafes and coffee at each table dessert plater. IT Tech (1) 5:30-9pm: Need someone to man the speakers, music, slideshow etc. The skill level required is minimal, and can be trained the day of. Clean Up (5-10) 7:30-10pm: scraping, rinsing, washing, drying, taking inventory, putting items away in designated areas.

Service Opportunities: Harvest Festival Event Crew Number of volunteers needed: 15 When/Where: Friday October 30, 2015 from 4:30-9:30 pm at the STAR Center (3873 66 th St Tacoma, WA 98409) Report to Matthew Kerns Training: 30 minute pre-event orientation Duties: Event set up and take down, registration table crew, carnival games crew, costume contest crew, kitchen crew etc. Qualifications: Minimum of 16 years of age Ability to take verbal and written directions well Ability to work independently Ability to work as a team
