EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 1 Experience from LHCb Bolek Pietrzyk LAPP, Annecy presented by David Barney

EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 2 A day before We were preparing this event long time before. Most of journalists were supposed to arrive between 8:45 and 11:00. We have prepared a detailed list of “guides” which nationality was 100% related to the nationality of journalists. The plan was to allow TV teams to film from the entrance of our control room, other journalists to stay outside in the exhibition area. We hoped to be able weaken this strict constrains if possible. On March 29 we got information that the program was advanced by 2 hours. “Guides” were informed.

EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 3 March 30 I arrived at 6am, soon beam was lost. At 6:30 “guides” have arrived and we got information that journalists will soon arrive – small panic among “guides”- what to do with them? Since we had no beam, all constrains were released and journalists with their “guides” could walk where they wanted, film, make interviews, discuss...

EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 5 First 3.5x3.5 TeV collisions Journalists were mixed with us and filming inside our control room

EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 7 Twitter and Web

EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 8 Twitter and Web

EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 9 Internet and Web broadcast We had 4 cameras in our control room and gave live interviews.... from Fabienne 

EPPOG Apr. 16th, 2010Bolek Pietrzyk 10 Conclusions We were lucky... Thanks to change of plans and beam losses journalists have arrived earlier, all constraints were released, journalists made interviews, filmed, established personal contacts with physicists and did not wanted to leave our control room...... Beam losses were useful, they have seen that it was not easy and they had filling to participate in a unique event. We were lucky... that finally collisions took place.
