Natural Gas as a natural resource in Trinidad and Tobago
3
Introduction Natural gas is a natural resource in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a fossil fuel that comes from decomposed organisms. I chose this topic because it is basically the ’backbone’ of our economy. Trinidad and Tobago is the largest producer of natural gas in Caribbean; therefore we generate most of our income from this sector. It also provides many jobs for people.
4
The present state of Natural Gas In 2007 research was done and they found that Trinidad and Tobago’s natural gas would be finished by the year 2025. Therefore our natural gas is not in a great state, but it is good for now. Our former Prime Minister once told the nation that natural gas would not run out soon because 62% of natural gas reserves were still not found, only 38% was found.
5
Challenges natural gas faces People are using natural gas reserves faster than we find new reserves. What some people do not realize is that there is only a finite amount of natural gas and it must finish. Natural gas is made of decomposed plants and animals. Therefore we can say that it is a fossil fuel. Fossil fuels take millions of years to form, so natural gas takes millions of years to form.
6
Probable results of its destruction If there is really no more natural gas reserves, this sector would be destroyed. If it is destroyed we would not be able to cook food because we need natural gas to use gas stoves. We also need it to heat water, so without it our water would be ‘freezing’ cold
7
Many people in the natural gas sector would loose their jobs. This would be an effect of having no natural gas there would not be anything for them to do drill for. Our country’s economy would be in a bad state because one of our main income earners would be gone. In order to survive we would need to import natural gas.

What can we do to save natural gas. 1. Check your ducts. Sometimes ventilation may be lose and leaking allowing heat to go in unnecessary places such as the attic where it is not needed and in turn wasting natural gas. 2. Set up programmable thermostats. “ Programmable thermostats can help save natural gas as well as reduce your monthly gas bill. A programmable thermostat is a digital device that will automatically detect and control room temperature according to a schedule that you set up.”
9
Program your thermostat to go to lower temperatures during the times you will not need to use as much natural gas. 3. Hot water usage There are several ways in which you can save on natural gas by controlling, maintaining and monitoring your hot water. First, be certain your hot water heater's temperature is set to no higher than 120 degrees Fahrenheit. 4. Hang your clothing outside to dry instead of using an ‘energy-guzzling’ gas dryer.
