1 World History (9/23)  Do Now: What inferences can you make about this place based on its geographical features? How is the geography similar to Mesopotamia and Egypt?

2 Once again, its rivers  The Indus  The Ganges  The Brahmaputra  These make agriculture possible  Life still centers around the monsoon -a seasonal wind  Winter-hot and dry from the northeast  Summer- wet from the southwest  Moisture from the Indian Ocean

4 Indus River Valley civilization  Lasted about 1,000 years  2500 BCE- emergence  1750 BCE-decline  1500 BCE-collapse  How does this civilization compare to those of Egypt and Mesopotamia?

5 World History (9/24)  Do Now: Egypt review question  After death, the Egyptians saved some organs (heart, intestines, etc.)while disposing of others (the brain). What does this show us about their beliefs?  A. They believed a person’s organs were not necessary after death.  B. They believed a person’s organs would be needed in the afterlife.  C. The Egyptians’ beliefs about the body show a limited grasp of basic medical knowledge.  D. Helping the dead bridge the gap between life on earth and the afterlife was of the highest importance.

9 Final thoughts on social status  Why do you think the Aryans divided their society this way?  What possible effects would this have (positive and negative)?
