Dimensional profile of personality in alcohol use disorder Author: Tabacitu (Toma) Adela Coordinators: Prof. Dr. Nirestean Aurel Dr. Szasz Istvan Zsolt Dr. Szasz Istvan Zsolt Coauthor: Beresteanu Alina
2
Objective The purpose of this study is to see if there is a premorbid personality in individuals with alcohol use disorder, by identifying the correlations between the dimensions of the Big Five model, measured by questionnaire DECAS and alcohol use disorder.
3
Alcohol use disorder Alcohol use disorder Alcohol use disorder is a chronic progressive disease characterized by a lack of control over alcohol consumption, with serious physical, psychological, social and legal consequences.
4
The Big Five Model of personality The big five model describes personality in a dimensional way. According to this model there are five broad personality dimensions that can be used to describe personality. This model is the world's most expanded and scientifically validated theory.
5
The DECAS personality inventory -five domains: -five domains: DISPOSITION (OPENESS) DISPOSITION (OPENESS) EXTRAVERSION EXTRAVERSION CONSCIENTIOUSNESS CONSCIENTIOUSNESS AGREEABILNESS AGREEABILNESS Emotional STABILITY Emotional STABILITY
6
Material and Methods -50 male patients admitted to the Psychiatric Clinics I and II, Targu Mures, diagnosed with alcohol use disorder *we have excluded all patients that have Personality Disorder due to substance use -the questionnaire DECAS - Kolmogorov-Smirnov method - the two tailed “t” test
7
Results -Age Groups -Previous Hospitalization -Comorbidities -Other substance related disorders -Corelations between alcohol use disorder and dimensions of the personality

11
Common Comorbidities
12
Other substance related disorders
13
DISPOSITION (OPENESS) P= 0.0010 t = 3.451 => Low DISPOSITION is a risk factor for alcohol use disorder
14
EXTRAVERSION P=0.9498 t = 0.06318 => there is no relationship between the dimension EXTRAVERSION and alcohol use disorder
15
CONSCIENTIOUSNESS P=0.0487 t= 2.01 => Low CONSCIENTIOUSNESS is a risk factor for alcohol use disorder
16
AGREEABILNESS P=0.0053 t= 2.884 => Low AGREEABILNESS is a risk factor for alcohol use disorder
17
Emotional STABILITY p<0,0001 t=5,727 => Low Emotional STABILITY is a risk factor for alcohol use disorder
18
DECAS profile of the population and alcohol use disorder
19
Conclusions Low Disposition, Conscientiousness, Agreeabilness and emotional Stability, as variants deviated considerably from the statistical norm of the dimensions of Big Five, are a risk factor for alcohol use disorder, and bring an argument to the concept of the premorbid personality in psychopathology.
