Location Where something actually is. There are 2 types of location: –Relative Location – “Jrecks is across the street from Case Middle School.” –Exact Location – “Jrecks is on the corner of Washington Street and Barben Street.” Latitude and Longitude

Place Anything that describes the placement of something or the characteristics of the place around that thing. Climate/Weather Soil Vegetation Animal Life Natural Resources Economy People

Interaction Whenever one part of the environment effects another part of the environment. –Humans interact with their environment by: Building homes Building Infrastructure (roads, power lines, cable, telephone lines, bridges, dams, railroads) Destroying things Growing crops and raising animals –Plants and animals in the environment often interact with one another –Even things like mountains interact with their environment when they move or change over time.

Movement All things in an environment move in one way or another. The planet moves constantly Continents move as tectonic plates shift Mountains move slowly over time Glaciers move, water moves, even plants slowly move. Humans move all over the planet in many different ways Humans force many objects to move so we can use them – Oil, coal, etc.

Regions A region is any area defined by a set of common characteristics. Regions can be small, large or huge. Watertown has a north side and a south side. New York State has downstate and upstate. The United States has 4 major regions.
