About the Excel file 1038 households; 207 fields - not a simple sub-set of published survey - many more fields than questionnaire Two versions in single Excel Workbook: Data; Working Copy (as Excel sheets) -Data includes text notes, colour coding; formula driven fields; active summary data -Working Copy has none of these features

Data 1 (non-food) Image and ID number Fields that correspond to questionnaire information (BoT comment => location; number and age of children => owns house) Augmentation of original data: Region (dummy 0; 1 allows filtering ); 1901 Census classification (filter by skill/industry/ occupation)

Data 2 (food) 4 fields – cost (d); quantity as recorded; revised quantity (lbs, pints, number); unit price Colour coding -Yellow: numberoids (imputed quantity from cost and average unit price, imputed cost from quantity and average unit price) - Purple: self-resourcing (from Remarks field) - Green: aggregate data that can be decomposed - Red/Orange: dubious

Remarks field Only about 25% of households provide comments Of these, about 5% really interesting (reflective on poverty, living conditions, politics etc.) Several of the others give details on self- resourcing; extended family support; other categories of non-food expenditure
