Sources of Error Think back to your lab procedure and identify things that may have affected the reliability of your data. These questions are just a guide. Did you always add the same amount of water to each container? If you were testing “water” as your variable, did you always make sure NOT to water the “no water” cup? Did your seeds stay down in the soil/sand or did they rise to the top? Did you remember to put the same number of seeds in both cups? If you were testing “light” as your variable, was your “no light” plant in the dark every single second of the experiment? Did you spill any soil? Did you accidentally damage the plant at any point? Did you keep accurate track of which sprout was which (if you had more than one seed grow)?

Mini-Poster Instructions Your lab data will be presented in a mini posters On Monday we will do a “tour” of the mini posters in class so that you can gather data from all of the experiments AND DRAW CONCLUSIONS. Here are some examples.
5
Let’s look at the two examples while using the rubric EXAMPLE 1
6
Question is narrowly focused and answerable. Hypothesis predicts an answer to the lab question. This sketch shows the complete list of materials used and gives accurate quantities.
7
Variables are accurately identified and are measurable. Picture shows a comparison of the conditions at the end of the experiment. Conditions are accurately labeled.
8
Data table is neat, accurate and shows averages. Accurate units (mm) are included. There is a title. Class data is incorporated smoothly into poster. Graph includes a title, accurate labels, units AND it looks professional. Missing Error Analysis. Did you notice?
