6 Questions for Discussion Are social pressures different for boys and girls? In what ways? What changes occur in a child’s social skill needs as he or she matures? Children with social skill deficits often are capable of establishing peer relationships but they have considerable difficulty maintaining those relationships. What are the reasons for this? How can the teacher or parent help remedy the situation? What impact do social skill deficits have on sibling relationships? On the extended family? Examine the “hidden curriculum” of your school. What are the characteristics that may present problems for the student with learning disabilities? How can the teacher or parent help the child to understand those characteristics and cope with them effectively?
