Purpose: To ensure Food Handlers are properly trained in safe food handling techniques to protect the health and well-being of Clark County residents and visitors. Clearly identify those individuals who have successfully completed the required or approved training.

Definition of Food: According to our 2010 Regulations – defined as “raw, cooked or processed edible substance, ice, beverage or an ingredient used, or intended for use or for sale, in whole or in part for human consumption…”

Definition of Food Handler NRS 446.030: “any person employed in or operating a food establishment, whether that person is an employer, employee or other natural person, who handles, stores, transports, prepares, manufactures, serves or sells food, or who comes in contact with eating or cooking utensils or other equipment used in the handling, preparation, manufacture, service or sale of food.”

Evolution of the Program Originally required TB testing with food safety training Hepatitis A vaccination replaced TB testing Half-day training replaced by one-hour movie July 2012 – Partnered with Vegas PBS and rolled out on-line food safety training course Late 2012 – Eliminate Hepatitis A vaccination requirement 2013 – Focus on Food Handlers only; eliminated categories that SNHD had no jurisdiction over
