A Resource Showcase  Anchor Activity for Parents  Gallery walk of TD resources, student work, teacher materials, etc.  Take away and discussion = What can be done at home to extend and enrich?  Thinking ahead … Our next meeting is February 25, 2013 Topic: Parenting "inquisitive" and “spirited” kids: Meeting Social and Emotional Needs

 Thank you for coming!  Let’s introduce ourselves…  Hello!  Your Name  Child’s name & rising grade level

 Start & End on Time  Cell phones on silent  Materials and/or “Take Aways” will be made available on-line or as hard copies  Respect All Ideas  Present & Engaged  Listen Attentively & Participate

 An anticipation guide is a comprehension strategy that is used before an activity to activate prior knowledge and build curiosity about a new topic.  Before participating, guides ask you to consider statements about key concepts presented.  May be structured as a series of statements with which the students can choose to agree or disagree.  Anticipation guides stimulate interest in a topic and set a purpose  Why use anticipation guides?  They teach students to make predictions, anticipate the text, and verify their predictions.  They connect new information to prior knowledge and build curiosity about a new topic. ▪ http://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/anticipation_guide/ http://www.readingrockets.org/strategies/anticipation_guide/

 Gallery Walk gets us out of our chairs and actively involves us in synthesizing important concepts.  Gallery Walks build consensus in writing and in public speaking.  In Gallery Walk teams rotate around the classroom, composing answers to questions as well as reflecting upon the answers given by other groups.  Questions are posted on charts or just pieces of paper located in different parts of the classroom.  Each chart or "station" has its own question that relates to an important class concept.  The technique closes with an oral presentation or "report out" in which each group synthesizes comments to a particular question.  Let’s take a “Gallery walk” of resources used for acceleration!
