Homophones

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different spellings and different meanings. For example, pair and pear are homophones. This is a pair of shoes. Pair means two of something. This is a pear. It is a fruit.

Here are some more words that are homophones. Can you think of the other word to make the pair? Work with a partner to find the missing words. brake and ____? dear and ____ ? meat and ____ ? hear and ____ ?

There are many more examples of homophones. How many can you think of? Start a list of homophones. For each word find a picture and then use the word in a sentence. bear bare A hungry bear hunted for some acorns to eat. The oak tree was bare after it lost all of its leaves.
