Player/performer Players can be amateur, semi professional or professional. Amateur’s are unpaid. Semi professionals often have another job at the same time. Professionals play full time and earn their living from playing their sport.

Coach/Instructor/Trainer These can be paid or voluntary. Coaches from club level to national teams. A coach can affect the success of a team. Instructors ensure that tasks are carried out safely. A trainers aim is to improve a teams/individuals fitness. A coach focuses on the tactics and game play.

Official/Referee Referees are essential to all sporting activities. They control the game and enforce game rules An official works alongside the referee making sure the game/event runs smoothly. Referees ensure the rules are not broken, unlike in the case above.

Administrator/Organiser In charge of club organisation and admin. Positions can be full or part time. For professional clubs/teams business qualifications are needed.

P.E Teacher Skilled and professionals with specialist qualifications. Full or part time. A true asset to the educational system!

Sports medicine/Science Research effect training methods to maximise performance. Includes jobs such as: physiotherapist, masseuse, sport injury doctor. Full or part time.

Leisure Industry Producers of equipment and clothing. Sponsorships. Sports and leisure centres offer training facilities and professional advice.

Grounds Staff Maintaining sports facilities. Can be from local clubs to professional and international grounds. For more professional facilities qualifications are sometimes needed.
