3 How did it all start? Community support for Council to consider CCTV project over a number of years Investigation into CCTV Discussion Paper prepared for Council consideration Incorporated as an initiative of the Safer City Strategy 2011-2014

4 Scope Part fibre - part wireless network Mix of 18 Fixed & PTZ cameras (6 in partnership) Server & Control Room at Shepparton Police Station Council owns the CCTV system Victoria Police responsible for management of footage Record 24/7 `Passive’ monitoring 24/7 with `Active’ monitoring during peak times $250k DoJ $178K AGD $285k Council

9 Advice for new projects: Do your research and know your ongoing operational costs Do not under estimate the amount of staff time required to deliver CCTV projects CCTV projects can be difficult to cost Talk to other LGA’s and learn from their experiences Engage a consultant with proven LGA public open space experience Start conversations early with stakeholders/utilities

10 Look for cost savings using existing Council owned infrastructure and underground conduits Investigate monitoring models Be flexible Keep the community, funding body & stakeholders informed of progress Ongoing community awareness post-commission Remember : You are not alone!
