3 Media Literacy Program PHILOSOPHY: Project-based opportunities to be the creators and not just the consumers of media texts. Students are able to… edit footage with film-editing software The editors could include: imovie Windows Movie Maker Ulead Adobe Premiere Students learn… how to alter and edit existing footage Technology is the best choice for this project because… students are easily able to edit film and learn the basics of editing with a computer – which in today’s world has become standard practice Students are able to… use digital devices with film capabilities to capture footage These could include: Cell phones Digital cameras Video cameras Students learn… how to take and capture footage for use on the computer footage Technology is the best choice for this project because… working in a group setting, almost all students will have access to a device which is capable of capturing film – meaning your class does NOT need a class set of video- cameras Students are able to… creation of a video text within a group setting, using digital devices Students learn… how to use digital devices as a venue for collaboration Technology is the best choice for this project because… online collaboration is becoming prevalent, and this project lends itself to assisting students to learn collaboration etiquette and skills
