Self Assessment Questions for Essay Structure Introduction:  Is my thesis or main idea clear?  Is my thesis stated in the first sentence?  Do I follow up my thesis statement with supporting statements? Body:  Do my supporting statements in my introduction serve as the ideas for the topic sentences of the paragraphs in the body of my paper?  Do I provide adequate support for each of my topic sentences, through the use of examples, information, logic, and ideas? Conclusion:  Do I restate my thesis without repeating it?  Do I avoid presenting new information or ideas in my conclusion?  Do I summarize, without repeating, the key supporting ideas of my paper?  Is my organization focused, using a logical progression of ideas with effective transitions and/or sequencing?  Do I have a complete header, including my name, period, and date?

5. Dakota Blakeley Mr. Siragusa English 11, W2 September 9, 2009 Most Important People The most important people in my life are my sisters, Eden and Vanessa. They have been with me for everything that has happened and supported me through it. I know that I can be myself around them without being judged. Also, they are two of the few people whom I can go to for their true opinions. First off, I’ve known them for my whole life, so they have been there with me throughout everything. Eden and Vanessa have given me the foundation to keep going even if the times get tough. They have gone through a lot of difficult times and it inspires me to keep going. For example, this summer I went to Europe with People to People and the tuition was about $7000. When the last payment was due, I was down $500 and somehow Eden found out and sent me the money I needed to go. She was already tight on money so I had a hard time accepting it, but she said that if I really wanted to go I would take it.

6. Second, Eden and Vanessa are two of the few people I can truly be myself around. I have trust issues and if I don’t know someone, I have a problem opening up to them. When I’m with either of them, I feel open and feel like I can do what I want without being appraised for whatever it is, good or bad. Lastly, other than my closest friend Malorie, they are the only other people I go to for honest advice. They know that I don’t take it personally and they can say whatever they’re actually thinking. If I ask some of my other friends they would say something that they think wouldn’t hurt me, but in the end it really does because I know that they aren’t true friends if they are afraid of offending me. But the two of them know that I will forgive them with in five minutes. In conclusion, my whole family is very important to me and I had a difficult time just picking, but I feel like I’m the closest to my sisters, in different ways though. Eden and Vanessa have supported me though pretty much everything in my life if not all; they are a couple of the only people I can truly be myself around and I can go to them for sincere advice.

7. Kelly Morris White 2 September 8, 2009 The Most Important Thing To Me The most important thing to me is trust, because without trust you can’t have love, friendship, or a team. Plus, you’d be lonely all your life without someone to trust in and confide in. Friendship can’t exist without trust. I know from personal experience that once the trust is gone between me and another friend it’s impossible for us to be friends, or even get along again until that trust is restored. If you don’t have friends you’ll either end up alone, or be paranoid of every person around you. I can’t imagine not being able to trust anyone not to steal from you, hurt you, or even live near you. What kind of life could that possibly be? Also, love can’t exist without trust. I know that I wouldn’t be able to still be dating my boyfriend if I didn’t trust him. Trust is a key factor in a healthy relationship, I believe that out trust in one another is why we’ve been able to be in a relationship for so long. I know I couldn’t date someone, let alone love somebody for over a year and a half if I didn’t trust them. Trust is also important when you’re on a team. You have to be able to trust that your teammate wants you to succeed and has the team’s best interests in mind. A team is like a well-oiled machine, and taking away the trust is like throwing screwdrivers inside a machine. They’ll both either break down and stop working properly, or stop working altogether. So, overall, trust is the most important thing to me because it allows everything else that I value so much possible. Without it there would be no love, no friendship, and no well functioning teams. I don’t know what I would do without trust.
