The Lost Wig Aesop's Fable
2
Tier 1 The Story
3
The Lost Wig A funny old lion, who had the misfortune to lose his mane, was wearing a wig as he was taking a stroll on a very windy day. Looking up, he spied one of the charming Tiger sisters across the street, and, wishing to make an impression, smiled blandly and made a beautiful low bow.
4
At that moment a very smart gust of wind came up, and the consequence was that his wig flew off and left him there, feeling foolish and looking worse, with his bald head glistening like a billiard ball. Though somewhat embarrassed at first, he smiled at the Lady and said: "Is it a wonder that another fellow's hair shouldn't keep on my head, when my own wouldn't stay there?"

Tier 4 Reflections

Choose one of the writing ideas to complete. Be creative.
1. The lion wanted to make an impression on those around him. Write about a time when you wanted to impress someone. What actions did you plan and put into practice? What were the consequences or implications from your actions? 2. Pretend to be the lion and you are very upset the way you look without your wig. It is not funny to you. What might happen and how is the atmosphere between you and the tiger? Be creative with either question you choose to complete. Here are some suggested project strategies: Write a podcast script; create a puppet show; develop a PSA; a PowerPoint presentation; write and be an actor in a skit; write a persuasive speech and give before the class.
