Course Description Strength Training & Conditioning students will be instructed in basic principles of strength training & conditioning for personal fitness and development. The course focus is on strength training which includes instruction in lifts & principles of strength training and conditioning. Students will be provided a quality workout opportunity based on the strength training principles taught. Topics, which may be explored, include systematic strength training, plyometric (explosion) training, speed & agility training, physiology of exercise, and other training methods. Tests and measurements of fitness, strength, & conditioning, as a means of evaluating progress, will be part of this course.

Expectations 1.Attend, be on time, dress appropriately, and perform to the best of your abilities everyday. 2.Treat ALL class members and staff with courtesy and respect. 3.Physical and/or verbal abuse and profanity are NOT acceptable at anytime. 4.Follow safety guidelines throughout the activity. 5.Respect and care for all equipment and facilities. 6.BHS rules and policies will be enforced. 7.NO food or drinks are allowed in the Physical Education areas except water. 8.Only students registered in class will be allowed in the activity areas during class.

Objectives & Structure What is the objective of Strength Training & Conditioning class? The objective of “Strength Training and Conditioning” is to provide instruction and practice in basic principles of strength training & conditioning. It is the goal of the course to provide the student with information so they may continue strength training for personal fitness throughout life. The core activities for this course are strength training and conditioning workouts. What is the general structure of Strength Training & Conditioning class? Strength Training & Conditioning Workout 3 days per week minimum Plyometrics (Explosion Training), Lecture, or Other Activities1-2 days each week possible Activity/Game Day 1 day every other week possible

Lockers & Dress Lockers Large Lockers- Athletes Only Tall Skinny Lockers- Use during class Small Box Lockers- Keep PE clothes overnight Dress Do not wear your school clothes to class. We sweat!!! Athletic shoes Athletic Shorts (No cargo shorts), T-shirt (No tanktops) No jewelery

Grading Grading & Evaluation Grading and evaluation is a points system based upon the following criteria: Daily Participation Points (80% of grade) Assessments/Assignments/Tests/Quizzes (20% of grade)

Daily Points (4pt Rubric) Daily Points Each day the class meets the student may earn up to 4 points. The points are distributed for attendance, participation, dress, conduct, and sportsmanship. *On your 2 nd Non-Suit and each thereafter, you will receive an Afterschool Assignment (ASA). Major Grade Reductions ** Four “Non-Suits”, Four unexcused tardies, or Four unexcused absences will result in a grade reduction of one letter grade for the semester. (Example: Grade reduced from an “A” to an “B".)
