Terms and School Mascot Term: quarter Term: quarter School mascot & History: The anteater was chosen in 1965 when students were allowed to submit mascot candidates, which would be voted on in a campus election. An undergraduate named Schuyler Hadley Basset III is credited with choosing the anteater and designing a cartoon representation, having been disappointed with other mascots such as a roadrunner, unicorn, and golden bison. Arts Program Arts program: Currently, our graduate programs in drama and the visual arts are ranked among the top 50 nationwide by U.S. News and World Report. Drama ranks 12th, and Studio Art 34th.

Sports Cont. UCI has won 26 national team championships in nine different sports since 1969 and has had 63 individual national champions. More than 400 UCI student- athletes have earned All-America distinction, and Anteater teams have captured 66 conference championships.
