1 NSCC SEAMAN MODULE TWO NAVIGATIONAL/SIGNAL LIGHTS
This presentation is developed from Chapter 2 (Pages 2-10 to 2-15) of Seaman Training Manual (NAVEDTRA 14067), and is designed for use either with the course, or independently from it. 2 Enabling Objectives Navigational lights must conform to Navigation Rules, International-Inland, COMDTINST M B Lights consist of: Running Lights Signal Lights Anchor Lights

3 Navigational Lights Power-driven vessel, 50+ meters

4 Running Lights Similar to merchant ships Include: Masthead light
Second masthead light (range light) Port/starboard side lights Stern light (white)

5 Masthead light White light Located on foremast or forward
6-12 meters off deck Shows 225° of light Right ahead to 22.5° abaft the beam on each side

6 Second Masthead Light Also a 225° light Mounted on mainmast
At least 4.5 meters higher than masthead light

7 Stern Light 135° white light Located on vessel stem
Visible from dead astern to 67.5° on each side of ship

8 Supply, Control and Telltale Panel
Mounted on the bulkhead in the pilothouse Audible and visual signal when light burns out Automatically switches to secondary filament, so bulb keeps lit Master control switch for running lights

9 Signal Lights Installed on combat ships Include:
Aircraft Warning lights (red) Blinker lights (white) Breakdown and man-overboard lights (red) Steering light (white) Stem light (blue) Wake light (white) Speed light (combination red/white) Supply switches are located in the pilothouse
