LABORATORY TEN The Circulatory System: Anatomy
2
Sheep Heart Dissection Identify the assigned superficial structures on p174, #3. Make a coronal section –Place the heart upside down, apex on the top –Find the posterior interventricular suclus and keep it in the middle –With a scalpel cut around the apex, towards the auricles, try not to saw –Identify the assigned structures on p175, #4
3
The Human Heart
4
Major ArteriesMajor Veins Use right arm and left leg to study the arteries and veins of systemic circuit in limbs; except for great saphenous vein (look on the right leg)
5
Coronary Circulation (supplies the heart muscle) Coronary sinus: look for a big blue vein at the posterior side
6
Circle of Willis (circulation to the brain)
7
Hepatic Portal Circulation (shunts blood from digestive organs to the liver for final metabolism and detoxification and from liver to the inferior vena cava for return to the heart)
8
Fetal Circulation (designed to by-pass fetal lung)
9
Lymphatic System (related to body defense mechanisms)
11
Demonstration Stations Fig 10.11 & 10.12, p175 & 176: model & microscope slide of cardiac muscle cells Fig 10.13, p176: microscope slide of blood vessels –Arteries have thicker wall –Veins have collapsed wall
