Learning Objectives I know what the overall function of the circulatory system is. I can identify parts of the circulatory system on a diagram or model. I can describe the three kinds of circulation in the body. I can describe the three kinds of blood vessels in the body.
3
What organs, or parts, make up your circulatory system?
Blood vessels, heart, blood
5
What is the job of your circulatory system?
To transport oxygen and nutrients around your body and to help to get rid of wastes
6
There are 3 kinds of circulation in your body:
PULMONARY the flow of blood through HEART, LUNGS and back to the HEART again.
7
There are 3 kinds of circulation in your body:
SYSTEMIC Moves oxygen-RICH blood to ORGANS and BODY TISSUES and back to the heart again.
8
There are 3 kinds of circulation in your body:
CORONARY Describes flow of blood to HEART TISSUES
9
There are 3 types of blood vessels in your body:
ARTERIES Move blood AWAY from heart Have THICK & ELASTIC walls, made of smooth muscle Are connected to VENTRICLES in the heart. Carry oxygen-rich blood Based on this description, are arteries considered tissues or organs or organ systems?
10
There are 3 types of blood vessels in your body:
VEINS Move blood TOWARD the heart. Have one-way VALVES Are squeezed by SKELETAL muscles. Carry blood with waste materials and that is oxygen-POOR
11
There are 3 types of blood vessels in your body:
CAPILLARIES Are MICROSCOPIC blood vessels Connect arteries to veins Their walls are only one cell thick! Nutrients and oxygen flow to body cells through capillary walls.
