2 Definition of Appositive  An Appositive is a noun or pronoun placed after another noun or pronoun to identify, rename, or explain the preceding word.  Ex: The basketball player, Shawn Bradley, is one of the tallest in the NBA.  Ex: The director, Paris Cart-man, is horrible at making movies.  Ex: We stopped at the capital of Virginia, Richmond.

3 Definition of Appositive Phrase  An Appositive Phrase is an appositive with modifiers  Ex: Shawn Bradley, the basketball player, is one of the tallest in the NBA.  Ex: Paris Cart-man, the director, is horrible at making movies. Shawn Bradley The Basketball Player

4 Where Appositives go in a sentence  They name a noun so they can usually be anywhere in a sentence.  Appositives are always separated by comma's  EX: The insect, the cockroach, is crawling across the kitchen.

5 Facts about appositives  The origin of the word came from late Latin.  It came in the late 17th century  An appositive is a noun and an adjective.  Adjective: (of an adjective or adjectival phrase) directly following the noun it modifies.  Noun: a word or phrase in

6 Where we go our information  We got it from our grammar books, and the reason we didn't get a lot of information is because it had nothing on appositives on Grolier or Galileo, but appositives, and appositive phrases.  We also used diction.com
