2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Set-Aside for Parental Involvement 1 percent of LEA’s Title I Allocation if over $500,000 95 percent of that amount goes to the schools. Parent Workshops Parent Resource Center Parent-School Liaison (Home Visits) Necessary transportation, meals, or childcare Newsletters Other parent training or assistive services {Section 1118(a)(3)(C)}

2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Set-Aside for Highly Qualified Teachers and Paraprofessionals Use funds to ensure that teachers and paraprofessionals meet the federal qualifications (Section 1119) At least 5 percent unless a lesser amount is needed Funds MAY be used for non-Title I staff in Targeted Assistance Title I schools AFTER Title I teachers are all highly qualified May NOT be used for non-Title I schools

2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Set-Aside for LEAs in Division Improvement May use funds for teachers throughout the district LEAs should examine the needs of all schools, not just those failing to meet AYP Address the professional development needs of the instructional staff serving the agency by committing to spend not less than 10 percent of the funds received by the LEA for each fiscal year in which the agency is identified for improvement {Section 1116(c)(7)(iii)} Schools in Corrective Action should not have their allocations reduced by more than 15 percent as a result of required set asides {Section 1116(b)(10)(D)}

2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Set-Aside for Title I Schools in School Improvement Schools in School Improvement must designate 10 percent for professional development and these funds can count toward the 10 percent division improvement set aside (if applicable). Funds carried over must still maintain these reservations.

2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Examples of Professional Development Set-Asides Workshop or conference expenses College courses Materials or capital outlay associated with professional development programs or activities Contracts with universities or educational consultants to improve academic performance Professional development in-house staff (i.e. coaching, model teaching, evaluation, program implementation) All budgeted expenses should be clearly identifiable as professional development {Section 9101(34)}

2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Serving Preschool Children Under Title I, Part A PURPOSE Preschool programs supported with Title I, Part A, funds provide young children with the early learning experiences that will enable them to meet academic standards throughout elementary and secondary school.

2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Who is Eligible for Preschool Services Supported with Title I, Part A, Funds? A preschool age child is one who is below the grade level and age at which the school division provides elementary education.

2008-2009 No Child Left Behind Application Effectively Transitioning Children from Preschool to Kindergarten Coordinating the professional activities of preschool and kindergarten teachers in order to align prekindergarten and kindergarten curricula and goals; Arranging for kindergarten and preschool children to visit each others’ classrooms; and
