2 What is an open-ended response?
A short response to a reading passage The first bullet is usually “close to the text” to apply what you know The second bullet is usually “beyond the text” to extend what you know Textual examples are essential Write one paragraph per bullet point

3 = EXTEND/CONNECT (to another book/movie, the world, or your life)
R.S.S.E. R = RESTATE the question = SUPPORT using the TEXT (steal from the text, but be sure to put it in quotes) In the text, the author states, “…” = SUPPORT in YOUR WORDS This means… = EXTEND/CONNECT (to another book/movie, the world, or your life) This reminds me of… S S E

REMEMBER… Each question or bullet gets R.S.S If there is more than 1 question, you only have to Extend (E) to one question!
