Before dissection, tie the pig down to the tray in the position shown to the right. Using a piece of string, tie the right foreleg to the left foreleg going behind the tray. Do the same for the hind legs.

Make an incision with a scalpel in the thoracic region ONLY (as shown in 1. and 3., DO NOT cut the trachea or blood vessels. Sketch pig head and upper body on a separate piece of paper. Draw and label the: trachea, heart, lungs, thyroid, thymus THEN List ALL the hormones & their actions! Yahoo!

X Thymus and Thyroid Glands
Thyroxine – TSH from Ant. Pituitary turns on Thyroid, this hormone increases the body’s metabolism (increased cell respiration and thus more energy). Calcitonin – high Ca++ in blood causes this hormone to be released from Thyroid, it moves excess Ca++ from blood to bone (storage in bone).
