Louis De Broglie was born on August 15th, 1892 in Dieppe, France. He was the second son born of five children. Broglie`s interest in physics started at an early age due to his brother Maurice who was also a physicist. He died in March 19, 1987 at the age of 94.
3
He born to a noble family. He had two brothers and two sisters. He was the son of Louis Alphonse Victor de Broglie and Pauline d`Armaille. Maurice, Louis`s brother who was also a physicist.
4
His interests in the mysteries of atomic physics was inspired by German physicists Albert Einstein and Max Planck. At the age of 18 he began to study theoretical physics at Sorbonne, and was also earning his degree in history.
5
He graduated Lycee Janson de Sailly Highschool in 1909. He attended BA History University in 1910 and PhD Theoretical Physics University in 1924.
6
Broglie suggested that an electron could have the similar properties of a wave. Earlier experiments had showed that electrons must move around the nucleus, thus its movement is restricted. But Broglie`s statement alone answered the question of an electron`s motion
7
At first his publications of the theory had little impact on other physics, but once it reached Einstein he made it his duty to publicize Broglie`s works.
8
He became the 7 th duc de Broglie in 1960.In 1913, he was awarded License of Sciences but before his career could progress he served in World War 1 in the wireless telegraphy section in the Eiffel Tower.
9
Once he obtained his doctorate, he went on to become a professor at Henri Poincaré Institute. He taught there until his retirement in 1962. After 1945, he also acted as an advisor for the French Atomic Energy Commissariat. In 1952, along with winning the Nobel Prize for Physics, he won the Kalinga Prize. He won this prize for his writing on science for the general public.
10
Louis De Broglie expressed most of his ideas in articles, books, and addresses. He published more than 25 books on physics. Some of his most important books are Waves and Motions (1926), Wave Mechanics (1928), Non-linear Wave Mechanics: A Causal Interpretation (1960), and Introduction to the Vigier Theory of Elementary Particles (1963). These books helped the public and other physics understand his ideas and theories.
