INTRO TO LIGHT
2
Learning Scale 4 – Design an experiment to show how waves move at different speeds through different materials. 3 – Explain why waves move at different speeds through different materials. 2 – Recall the terms: reflection, refraction, crest, trough, amplitude, wavelength, & frequency 1 - Identify types of waves.
3
What is light? Light is an electromagnetic wave which means that it can travel through empty space.
4
Light & Matter Opaque – material through which no light passes Translucent – a material that allows most light to pass through and form a blurry image. Transparent – a material that allows almost all the light to pass through and form a clear image.
5
Light & Color Pigments Primary Secondary Magenta Blue Yellow Green Cyan Red Combined = black Light Primary Secondary Green Magenta Blue Yellow Red Cyan Combined = white
6
Reflection The bouncing of a wave off a surface.
7
Refraction
8
Transmission
9
Absorption
10
Diffraction
11
Knowledge Check Describe 3 things that can happen when light strikes an object. Compare and contrast an opaque and transparent object.
