Native American Societies Native Americans adapted to diverse physical settings. Bountiful natural environments support denser populations than areas with harsher environments. Native Americans alter natural environments as they develop hunting and agricultural techniques.

Native American Societies Trade links Native Americans peoples and promotes the sharing of ideas and customs. Native Americans base their identity to the land, which cannot be bought or sold. Spritual beliefs and social structures guide Native American life, from birth to death.

Contrasting What were the different environments of California that led to its diverse Native American population? How did food production differ among the Native American societies? In what ways did trade link Native Americans? What similarities and differences existed among Native American family structures.

Check your Answers Long coastline, rain forests, deserts, marshlands, rocky foothills, and mountains. Coast- Relied on the ocean for their food. Southwest- Grew crops Eastern Woodlands- Gathered wild game, crops, and fish. It allowed different groups to interact and enabled them to exchange foods and goods. Some families were large and included extended families. Other families were small and nomadic.
