Mission United Ways universal mission statement is, “To improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good” (United Way Worldwide, 2014). United Way of Salem County’s mission statement says, “United Way of Salem County engages the caring power of the community via Giving, Advocacy, and Volunteering to advance the availability of and access to critical resources in Education, Income Stability, Health, and Youth Development” (United Way of Salem County, 2014).

Demographics United Way of Salem County provides services to all of Salem County N.J. Salem County has a population of 65, 166 Services are provided to individuals and families as needed

Policies and Procedures The Administration Committee, serving on behalf of the Board, establishes policies. Whenever feasible, such changes will be in writing. The Executive Director has full responsibility for the administration of personnel policies and shall consult, when necessary, with the Administration Committee. The Board of Directors is responsible for employment of the Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for the employment of all other employees.

Governance United Way of Salem County is basically governed by the board of directors. The board votes on budgets and new programs for the agency.

Funding United Way of Salem County’s main funding support comes from: Mannington Mills, DuPont Chambers Work, PSEG and Atlantic City Electric. Rely mainly on Corporate giving.

Relationship to other agencies United Way helps in funding several agencies in Salem County on an annual basis. Work with agencies to ensure that everyone in the community has affordable and adequate health care, achieve academic success and help to stabilize the economic climate in Salem County

Strengths, Trends and Challenges Strength – have a board that embraces their drive to re- invent the agency Trend – shift from solely funding other agencies to do work in the community/engaging in direct service themselves Challenge – the resistance of many in the community to these major changes
