Film Analysis

There are non-diegetic whispers and screams which is eerie and unnerving, setting the audience up for a creepy storyline. The tap turning on makes the audience jump, this is the first false peak, building the suspense with no reason to be scared.

There is a large dark space behind the main character, this shows that the unknown is closer than they think. It also suggests that at some point something will creep out from that darkness without the character realising, which makes the audience constantly on edge.

During the credits the editing is fast, making the audience think the film will be fast paced and thrilling. However, once the credits stop, the editing becomes slow, this tricks the audience as they can not predict how the rest of the film will be paced.

It starts in an average suburban area, filled with happy looking people, which lures the audience into a false sense of security. However the colours are dark, which is more typical of a thriller, as well as occasional flashes of light, which gives the impression of the supernatural, or something extraordinary.
