Network Components Nodes – individuals, organizations, other meaningful entities, and things these are seen as actors, having independent agency Ties – the relationships between nodes bound together in some meaningful fashion these may be strong or weak

The identity of a node is a relatively stable construction in an ongoing process of social activity which may, in our case, be participation in a marketing chain A node is a function of idiom and discourse. What is a node ?

Narratives, stories, and discourses Stories describe how the nodes are tied to each other A social network is a network of meanings, of discursive frameworks, and cultural idioms.

It does not make a difference which idiom or mixture of idioms is available to be drawn upon by given groups. Indeed, the very definition of groups, their interests, and their relations to one another will be influenced by cultural idioms. (Skocpol, 1985)
