3 Why is this used: Why is this used: To show Death’s connection with Liesel. He reads her story “several hundred times” shows us there is something about her that he connects with. Through her story Death could see what she saw, feel what she felt and go on a journey with her through the pain and sadness of her life. How is this significant: How is this significant: By reading Liesels story he is touched by her in a way that other people had not and by going on a journey with her he is able to connect with her on a different level than he has with other humans.

8 Why is this used: This helps us to understand that she steals more than once in her life so even though she knows its wrong she still does it. We are shown that her stealing wasn’t planned. She ‘struck’ – seized the opportunities as they appeared and from these books found the power of words. Why is this Significant: This is significant because through stealing she feels power. Power because she can control when she steals and who she steals from. Power, because by stealing she is making it like she has more worth than the person she steals from because they seem helpless to stop her.
