SET UP Page 4 of your Science Notebook (from now on abbreviated NB) Title: Penny Lab I predict that we can put drops of water on the penny before the water flows off. [write the preceding and make your prediction]

1. Materials Construct 2-column Data Table Headings: trial #, # of drops Calculate the average # of drops of water Show work: equation for average, plug in the numbers, underline average with units. 2. Procedure Drop water onto the penny one drop at a time keeping careful count of number of drops. Need to drop water until the penny can’t accept any more—you will need to go “one-drop too far” and the water will actually need to spill over. One drop less than “spill over” will be your amount. You need three good trials 3. Data & Calculations ¼ cup water Penny Pipette (dropper) Paper towel

CLEAN UP Pour unused water back into the pitcher Put pipettes back on counter (be sure there is no water in it) Put dry pennies back in the bag Put cups back on table—up side down on the paper towels Wipe up any spills and put waste in trash cans
