ESGR facilitates and promotes a cooperative culture of employer support for National Guard and Reserve service by developing and advocating mutually beneficial initiatives; recognizing outstanding employer support; increasing awareness of applicable laws and policies; resolving potential conflicts between employers and their service members; and acting as the employers’ principal advocate within DoD. ESGR Role: Outreach Educate Members and their families: Timely and honest communication with employer Ways to reduce tension between member and employer Information and Education Events: Pre-deployment briefs Yellow Ribbon events Ombudsmen Assistance Hero to Hired (H2H): https://h2h.jobs/https://h2h.jobs/ Hero2Hired (H2H) was created: to make it easy for Reserve Component service members to connect to and find jobs with military-friendly companies. H2H also offers career exploration tools, military-to-civilian skills translations, education and training resources, as well as a mobile app.

ESGR Role: Outreach For Spouses: ESGR recognizes the special needs and sacrifices made by military spouses, as well as their employers. Similar to employers of Guard and Reserve Service members, employers of military spouses frequently go above and beyond in support of their employee and family. ESGR Role: Recognition ESGR offers a Statement of Support program where employers can sign a pledge to support the military service of their employees. Simultaneously, ESGR offers a progressive awards program so you can nominate a supportive supervisor or employer for support that goes above and beyond what is required by law.

ESGR Role: Mediation The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) is a federal law that establishes rights and responsibilities for uniformed service members and their civilian employers.Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act USERRA protects the job rights of individuals who voluntarily or involuntarily leave employment positions to perform service in the uniformed services to include certain types of service in the National Disaster Medical System and the Commissioned Corps of the Public Health Service.

ESGR Role: Mediation Ombudsman are volunteers: Provide a neutral agent assisting both parties Provide unit/employer briefings explaining to both parties their rights and responsibilities Provide information and explain the law (USERRA) Cases assigned must be closed within 14 days ESGR has 600 ombudsman and always needs more volunteers

ESGR Role: Mediation Informal Mediation The Ombudsman Program is extremely effective Greater than 80% of cases resolved Remainder referred to the DOL, Private Attorney or no action is taken by the Service Member
