Equations Involved KE=1/2*m*v^2 Input P=1/2*rho*A*V^3=0.55 Watts Output P=V*I=1.7*0.1=0.17 Watts Efficiency= 0.17/0.55=0.31 or 31%
3
The Initial Design Spoons for the blades of the fan Dowel rod glued to the fan Magnets glued to the dowel rod that rotated inside coiled copper wire Duct to funnel the air directly into the blades of the fan
4
Complications Spoons were not angled in the correct position, causing negative torque Needed a way to “hang” the copper wire around the magnets without interfering with the rotating dowel rod Generator did not have enough coiled wire or magnetic strength Fan caused a lot of oscillation because of its imbalance of weight and was not perfectly aligned Duct did not funnel the air as intended
5
Resolutions Zip Ties, and Super Glue, and More Zip Ties and Super Glue Used zip ties, wood, and PVC pipe to develop a new fan Zip tied and screwed to secure the generator onto the end of the PVC pipe Glued pipe into the base to secure the fan, lowering the imbalance of force from the weight of the fan Glued wood and screwed down the top of the housing to lower the oscillations Found and/or bought stronger and lighter magnets Added more coiled wire to the generator
7
Costs PVC pipe- $1.00 Bearings- $3.00 Magnets- $6.00 Wood (dowel rod and base)- $1.00 Zip ties- $2.00 Glue- $3.00 Screws- $1.00 Copper Wire- $20.00 In total we estimate our cost to be about $37.00
