3 Structure and History: Ezra, who was a priest, had traditionally been identified as the author of Chronicles Ezra is writing around 450 B. C.

4 Structure and History: Ezra leads a second group of Exiles who return to Jerusalem

5 Structure and History: II Chronicles 1-9 National and Moral Significance of Solomon’s Reign Solomon was promised “length of days” if he would walk with God (I Kings 3:13-14) Solomon’s wisdom in the building of the Temple

6 Structure and History: II Chronicles 10-36 Judah’s History to Captivity Twenty kings over Judah from Rehoboam to Zedekiah Throne founded by Divine Covenant and a Temple founded by Divine Guidance

7 Structure and History: II Chronicles 10-36 The Throne (leadership) and the Temple (worship) were to uphold and glorify each other Apostasy develops and the throne becomes the worst enemy of the temple

8 Jeremiah 25:1-14

9 The Temple (House of God, Place of God): A symbol of the unity of the nation A reminder of the nation’s high calling A sign that Jehovah was still with His chosen people

10 The building of the temple in II Chronicles is similar to the building of the tabernacle in Exodus (Exodus 31-36 and II Chronicles 2-7)

11 The Throne: God’s chosen leader to rule the nation with justice God’s chosen lineage to fulfill the promise made to David God’s covenant with his chosen people

12 These two symbols of God’s excellence are at war! It leads to Babylonian captivity!

13 Is God still Concerned About Us?

14 The real question is Israel concerned about God?

17 Ezra wrote Chronicles to tell the story to inform the nation how to avoid mess

18 The Glory of God – Israel returned
