Problem Solving Block The Carnival Problem Roanoke Elementary added a new event to their school carnival. They asked contestants to guess the weight of three objects: a cube, a sphere, and a cylinder. Contestants are given three clues, and different combinations of items are placed on scales. Can contestants determine the weights of the items form the information shown here?

1.What is the product of the 4 th multiple of 8 and the 5 th multiple of five? 2.What is the quotient of 144 divided by 4? (Use a T Chart to Solve) 5. Sam recorded the number of touchdowns he scored all season? Then he added 5 to the number and divided it by 3. The result was 7. What is the number of touchdowns he scored this season? 7 4. The chart below shows how many pitches you receive per token at the batting cage. If the pattern continued, how many pitches would you receive with 14 tokens? 5. Write the following number in expanded form: 63,589 6. Jan went to the salon with $100. She had her nails painted for $20, her toe nails painted for $15 and had her hair cut. What information is needed to determine how much money Jan has left? Warm Up TokensPitches 342 570 798

Only 20 more days until Christmas! How many hours until Christmas? 24 x 20 = 480 Hours!!!

Target the Question How much change would you receive from a $20.00 if you purchase 8 packs of gum, 5 candy bars, and 10 chocolate mints? What would the correct amount of change due to Patsy if she paid with a $5.00?

Ten Minute Math Quick Images: 2D Show image for 3 seconds Students will try to draw image based on the parts they remember from the quick view. Try to look for groups of patterns in the image First View…

Ten Minute Math Quick Images: 2D Take a couple of minutes to sketch what you saw. Second view…

Ten Minute Math Quick Images: 2D You may want to revise your sketch. Discuss: How did you remember the parts of the image? What did you notice about the relationship of the parts of the image? What helped you remember the whole image, so you could draw your design? What polygons are in your image?

Ten Minute Math Quick Images- 2D You may want to revise your sketch. Discuss: How did you remember the parts of the image? What did you notice about the relationship of the parts of the image? What helped you remember the whole image, so you could draw your design? What polygons are in your image?

What are the characteristics of quadrilaterals? Locate all their quadrilaterals in their tangram or pattern block set. Who remembers what a quadrilateral is? How many sides does a quadrilateral have? You may have selected these shapes: What about these shapes? Are they quadrilaterals?

Making Polygons Combine two or more polygons to make up other polygons, based on the instructions below. Once you have created your polygon, trace the shape and name the shape. Use dotted lines to show the polygons you used the create your new polygon.

Math Workshop 1.EnVision p. 306-307 (1-20) 2.Guess My Rule with Quadrilaterals: Today you will be playing Guess my Rule with only your quadrilateral shapes. Record what you discover about ALL quadrilaterals and what is only true for SOME quadrilaterals by creating a chart.

All Quadrilaterals….Some Quadrilaterals What are some of the rules you can up with while you were playing Guess my Number? You have noticed that all quadrilaterals have four sides. What else do all quadrilaterals have? What are some differences among quadrilaterals?
