1 Create a List of Themes Work in teams of three or less. Make sure each of you write them on your own sheet of paper. Using the ABCs. Come up with three themes per letter of the alphabet. Examples: A: Apples, Animals, Alphabet B: Bear, Blue, Bunnies

2 Select the Best Theme Now individually pick one of the themes for each of the letters of the alphabet. Remember pick the theme that you think that you can write the best ABC theme card.

3 1. Concepts You will come up with 3 vocabulary words and 2 factual statements that directly relate to each theme.

4 Examples: Apples Trees, Fruit, Autumn, Apples are a fruit that grows on trees Apples come in colors like red, yellow, and green Apples have black seeds

5 2. Objectives Write 3 objectives –Follow the three parts of an objective 1.The children will: 2.Action Verb: Blooms Taxonomy –(never use the word LEARN). 3.Description of what the child will do.

7 Example of an Objective The children will recognize that apples come from trees. The children will identify that Apples come in many colors. The children will analyze that Apples have seeds.

8 3. Guide for Activity Writing Write an activity using 1 of each of the 3 objectives as a guide. Include all 4 parts to writing an activity.

9 Example of an Activity Writing Apple prints: The children will use half apples to dip into paint. They will place the paint dipped apple on the tree shaped sheet of paper. The children will be able to recognize the parts of the inside of the apple. Supplies: Yellow, Red, Green paint. Cut apples. Tree paper. Paint shirts. Leaf shaped sponges Task: Fine motor Which objective(s) will this activity relate to?

10 The Four Parts of an Activity The four parts of the activity should include the following:

11 A. Creative Name Use a name that describes the activity in a creative name.

12 B. Description of Activity: This must be detailed and complete. When you describe the activity anyone must be able to pick up the description and do it.

13 C. Supplies: A complete list of all the items needed to complete the activity.

14 D. Task: Large/Gross Motor - outdoor play Fine/Small Motor - manipulative Art Language / Early Literacy Math Music and Movement Science and discovery Sensory Dramatic Play Nutrition and food experience

15 Apple Dismember The children will dissect an apple and use all of their senses to learn about the fruit. They will be given different colors of apples (red, green and yellow.) and safe cutting tools. Children will observe the insides, outsides, and parts of a apple.
