1767 Parliament authorized the writs of assistance
Legal documents that allowed custom officers to enter any location and search for smuggled goods.

Forced the colonies to pay for housing British soldiers in taverns, inns, vacant buildings, and barns.
Colonists were expected to provide food and drinks
