There is a strong need to incorporate Interesting and Relevant Texts in to the everyday classroom. Studies show that students are more focused and intrigued when reading things that relate to them. -JOHNSON, N.D.

Research shows that students respond more to learning and reading when they are made part of the learning process-if they are given choice in what they read or are allowed to give input into a lesson, they will be more highly motivated. -GAMBRELL & MARINAK, N.D.

INCORPORATE IT IN YOUR CLASSROOM! Lesson Title: Creating and solving word problems involving distance and the Pythagorean Theorem Procedure: Have students write word problems involving distance after teacher has modeled the process. Then have students solve pre- written word problems. This incorporates the well researched phenomena that reading and writing are better enhanced when taught together. Grouping students also helps to enhance literacy skills by enabling students to read more at their own pace and possibly work ahead of their peers. -TWYMON, N.D.
