Background Current version of ESEA was passed in 2002 as the No Child Left Behind Act Reauthorization was originally scheduled in 2007 Congress has started the process many times, but no comprehensive reauthorization has gained support Administration has issued ESEA waivers in absence of reauthorization

Current Status Both House and Senate have made ESEA a priority this Congress Bipartisan negotiations underway in the Senate House passed H.R. 5, Student Success Act, by partisan vote February 27 Key issues include funding, testing, accountability systems, and state and local flexibility

ACTE Priorities Incorporate career readiness Support secondary school reform by strengthening the integration of academics & CTE Increase support for comprehensive guidance & counseling Include CTE teachers in efforts to improve recruitment, retention & effectiveness

Key Bills Career Ready Act of 2015, S. 478 Encourages schools and states to track and report on career readiness indicators Allows states to include multiple measures of career readiness in their accountability systems Strengthens career guidance and counseling
