What is the Skeletal System made up of? 1.Bones 2.Cartilage 3.Ligaments 4.Joints

Bone There are 206 bones in and adult The largest bone is the femur bone, located in the thigh. The smallest bones are in the ear: hammer, anvil, and stirrup

Ligaments Ligaments are a connective tissue that connects bone to bone

Cartilage Cartilage is found at the end of many bones, nose, and ears. –It protects bones. –It acts like a shock absorber. –It gives shape w/ flexibility to your body.

Activity 1 How much do your bones weigh in your body? (W x 35)/100= Approximate weight of your bones. What is the %?

Activity 2 Index Cards Make a bone by folding the index card in one of the following ways: –Group 1: folded like a tent –Group 2: Folded in a square “tube” –Group 3: folded in a round “tube”, using short sides –Group 4: folded in a round “tube”, using the long sides.

Activity 2 continue Count the number of books you can stack on your bone. Determine which type of bone will support the most weight. Where would you want this type of bone in your body? Where wouldn’t you want this type of bone? Why?
