2 Koko’s Kitten Koko plays with Koko’s kitten. Koko puts it on Koko’s lap. Koko brushes the kitten’s fur. Koko loves Koko’s kitten! Why does this paragraph sound funny? What can we do to change it? Let’s find out how possessive pronouns can help!

3 What is a possessive pronoun?
A noun that shows ownership is a possessive noun. Some pronouns can take the place of possessive nouns. A pronoun that shows ownership is called a possessive pronoun.

4 Possessive Pronouns Look at these examples: Nouns Pronouns
Ashley’s radio is broken. Her radio is broken. She took it to Al’s shop. She took it to his shop. Ashley has the twins’ radio. Ashley has their radio. This radio is Ms. Teacher’s. (That’s me!) This radio is mine. Ms. Teacher’s radio is loud. My radio is loud. The radio’s speakers work well. Its speakers work well. Mr. and Mrs. Principal’s radio works better. Their radio works better. This radio is Student’s. (That’s you!) This radio is yours. Student’s radio is much smaller. Your radio is much smaller.

5 Find the possessive Pronoun in each sentence.

She tells the trainers, “I love Koko’s kitten.” Koko has a special computer. The computer’s buttons have pictures on them. Koko uses Koko’s computer to answer questions. Michael talks too. He tells how he and Michael’s mother were chased by hunters. People should make sure gorillas in the wild are protected.
