2 Benefits vs. Costs Persuasion: That there is currently little benefit that can be gained from the program. Benefits: – Broaden our understanding of space – Provides jobs – May solve resource and population problems Cost: Estimated to cost $100 billion dollars by 2020. The program is short 4 million dollars a year.

3 Lunar Mission NASA’s Goal: to land humans on the moon by 2020 establish a base on the moon by 2025 Pro: May be able to find useful resources on the moon Con: The preparation for the mission and the mission itself will be costly. -LCROSS mission Cost: $79 million Benefit: Confirmed scientists theory that there is water on the moon. -

4 Mars Mission Pros – Could provide an alternative place for humans to live – Scientists may find useful resources that can be used on earth. – Scientists could build an observatory on Mars which would give scientists a better understanding of deep space. 5 Mars Continued Cons – Will require a great deal of money and resources. – The benefits that could be gained from the mission will not immediately solve problems on earth. – Benefits are not guaranteed. – It makewill take thousands of years before Mars can be inhabited by humans. – Humans may have a negative impact on the planet
