4 Starter Look at page 91 of the student’s book. Where is this statue? What does this statue represent? Why does it have a sword in one hand and scales in the other?

Religion and the need for law and justice You will need to understand the effects of, and give reasons for your own opinion about: why societies need laws to function properly why the laws need to be just and be administered by a justice system why a justice system needs punishments and arguments about what punishment should be based on why justice is important for followers of Christianity why justice is important for the followers of one religion other than Christianity.

Religion and capital punishment You will need to understand the effects of, and give reasons for your own opinion about: what capital punishment is and non-religious arguments about whether capital punishment should be used why some Christians are against the use of capital punishment and why some Christians think it should be used why there are different attitudes to capital punishment in one religion other than Christianity.

Religion: drugs and alcohol You will need to understand the effects of, and give reasons for your own opinion about: the current laws on drugs and alcohol in the UK and the reasons for them the social problems caused by the use of drugs and alcohol the health problems drugs and alcohol cause to their users the different attitudes to drugs and alcohol among Christians the attitudes to drugs and alcohol in one religion other than Christianity.
