2 A Little Reminder 4 “GOAL is a concerted action between the school team and its partners, in which objectives are set and services (individual and collective), tools and pedagogical activities implemented to guide students in their identity development and career planning. 3 What GOAL is not? 4 Not a series of isolated actions or activities 4 Not an «add-on » to existing programs 4 Not the sole responsibility of the counsellor 4 Not limited to specifically identified student groups 4 Not a course, rather a career culture which is school-wide and supported by administration and by the teaching personnel.

4 Examples of GOAL in action 4 Build GOAL into your School Success Plan 4 Learning activities to prepare students for the math choices in Secondary Cycle Two, Year Two in English Language Arts and Math in collaboration with the Société GRICS and the GOAL Network to identity math interests and skills 4 Real-life math interests, math inventories and links to careers, working working with the guidance counsellor and Secondary Cycle Two Year One math teachers 4 Career exploration days in industry, Student for a Day in a vocational training centre or in a CEGEP 4 Career Cruising 4 GOAL initiatives in Secondary Cycle One to begin the exploration process.

5 Math and CEGEP Programs 4 With Sec. IV cultural math & Sec. IV General or Applied or Environmental Science, students are eligible for one of the following pre-university programs: Creative Arts, Literature & Languages, Fine Arts, Music, Liberal Arts, Social Science (regular and with Honours) 4 With Sec.V Technical or Scientific math & Sec. IV General or Applied or Environmental Science, students are eligible for one of the following programs: Social Sciences with Math, Social Sciences with Commerce or Sciences humaines with Profil administration 4 With Sec. IV Technical or Scientific math & Environmental Science & Sec. V Technical or Scientific math & Physics 543 & Chemistry 534, students are eligible for one of the following programs: to Health Sciences (D.V.M.), Pure & Applied Sciences, Sciences (combines both above for the 1st year), Science Plus/Honours (with over 80%), Arts & Sciences (2 years with Fine Arts & Languages options, Double DEC programs such as Music & Science, Arts & Sciences and Social Sciences and Sciences 4 With Sec. IV Cultural math & Sec. IV any Science, students are eligible for one of the following 3 years Professional/Technical Programs such as Business Technologies, Fine Arts Technologies, Health Technologies, Community Service Technologies, Applied Science Technologies, Health Science Technologies and related programs.

6 The GOAL Network’s priorities for 2009-2010: 1- To identify GOAL features and key works in the QEP, Secondary Cycle One and Two in order to prepare an online game on GOAL awareness 2- To prepare a promotional tools for administrators and consultants, including updating the GOAL website. 3- To develop GOAL-driven learning and evaluation situations to embed GOAL into teaching practices, particularly through the Broad areas of learning. 7 For 2009-2010 4 We are seeking Secondary Cycle Two, Year 2 Math teachers to work on a learning situation aimed at preparing students for their math choices. 4 Video on the math sequences, math interests and problem-solving tasks with an overview of the school system and requirements for vocational training and CEGEP. 4 For more information, please contact your GOAL Coordinator
